Paleo Recap and Helllloooo Weekend!

Wow.  Just wow is all I have to say.  This is my fifth day eating “Paleo” and I just honestly haven’t felt this good in a really long time.  I’m digesting food better, I don’t feel bloated all.the.friggin.time, I’m staying fuller longer, and I’m just generally more satisfied.  I still need to wrangle that darn sweet tooth.  I went on a Target run after a nice 5 mile walk with the BFF yesterday and picked up some almond milk, bananas, and strawberries in hopes to recreate what looks to be a delish fake ice cream.  I didn’t want to make the “ice cream” last night though, and instead decided chowing on some almond milk with slivered almonds and bananas would be better.  Tummy didn’t really agree.  I’m blaming this on the fact that I wasn’t remotely hungry … just letting my usual nightly sweet craving take over.  Alas, lesson learned.  That incident aside, I really just haven’t feel so awesome in a long, long while.

My willpower had the ULTIMATE test last night when I took on the task of making these little gems.  Not one taste test.  Not even one little nibble. thankyouverymuch!

The division I work under has an informal monthly lunch and each department takes a turn hosting it.  My department hosted this month’s lunch, which was today, and I was requested to make those “delicious cookies!!!”  Sure, why not.  I saved a couple for hubs, and he confirmed that they were just as yummy as they always are.  I curbed my grabby fingers by munching on half of an Apple Pie larabar … 45 minutes later, cookies were made and put away for my special co-workers!

So it’s Friday!  Yay!  Sidenote, I heard the new Katy Perry song the other day… something about Friday is in it and I definitely thought it was a new Rebecca Black song.  Woops.  It’s our first official married weekend at home, and we’re doing it up right!  For months and months we barely did anything fun so we could save money for wedding things and because well, wedding planning just takes up A LOT OF TIME.  Although our wedding day could not have been more perfect, I’m so happy to have our normal lives back.  We’re kicking off the weekend by going to our first Reds game of the season tonight.  Joe couldn’t be happier!  And we’ll get to take our new personalized jersey’s out for the inaugural Reds game.  Joe is a HUGE Reds fan.  I surprised him with a Reds Groomscake, and my Dad and stepmom got us Reds jersey’s with our last name on them and a “5” on mine and a “21” on Joe’s for our wedding date.  Anywho, should be fun!

Hope everyone has a wonderful start to their weekend!! :)

Hey Hun! I'm trying to comment on your post but can't! Maybe I am slow and can't find the button.

I have no idea how you're doing that paelo diet, it sounds soo hard! Any advice? Maybe I'll try it!

Xoxo sillysyll

hey lady!  i love tumblr, but i wish it was more user-friendly … half the time I have no idea how to comment on posts, either :)  I’ll look into and see if it’s some kind of setting a need to change…

I thought the same thing about Paleo!!  I had just reached a point where I needed something drastic.  I’ve done weight watchers off and on, but it just wasn’t clicking with me.  I’m sure you’ve seen the influx of Paleo stuff on all these tumblr sites, so it def got my attention.  At first I thought it was absolutely ridiculous — i mean cutting out dairy, grains, sugar — for real?!  At the same time I was getting completely sick of the daily struggle I was going through, I kept seeing all of these amazing results from the blogs I read.  I wanted to get super informed before jumping into anything, so I bought the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf.  I HIGHLY recommend reading it if Paleo is anything you’re remotely interested in.  Granted I’m only on my second day, but I already feel a lot better.  I haven’t had any stomach issues, bloating, general discomfort, etc. yet, and I used to be like that after most meals.  And you really do stay full for a loooong time.  I’m kind of struggling with wanting sweet stuff here and there, but I think that’s just re-training myself not to reach for dessert every night, ya know? If it sounds like something you’re interested in, def check out the book!  It’ll get you pretty pumped to get started with a new way of eating.  Sorry I don’t have any fabulous advice … maybe once I’m in the heart of it I will :)

Keep me posted on your thoughts!! :)

Paleo Day 1 = SUCCESS!!  I was amazed by how full each meal kept me.  I ate breakfast around 7:45am, and then around 10:15-10:30, Joe and I took Kenzie, our furmonster, out for a looooonnng walk.  We did a total of 5 miles, but about 4 miles in we stopped at my Mom’s house to get our poor pup some water.  Her black coat did not like all the sunshine and heat!  We chit chatted on the porch for about 30 minutes with Mom and Jack and then made the mile walk back to the park where our car was.  By the time I actually got around to making lunch it was around 1pm, and I was just then starting to get hungry.  For me, this is absolutely craziness.  I’m usually hungry a couple hrs after eating.  I do have to admit that after lunch and dinner I was craving something sweet.  My end of lunch craving went away pretty quickly due to a last minute decision to go car shopping.  Yes, a week into our marriage and we’re already making our first big purchase.  I’m all about getting the money pit of an Expedition out of our lives and welcoming our brand-spankin’ new Mazda3.  It’s so pretty!  But I’m done with big life changes for a while J

My first Paleo meal.  I’m trying to follow the 30 day meal plan as closely as possible, but I’ll probably swap dinners around to what makes the most sense for our schedule.
Meal:  2 “fried” eggs (I use that term very loosely b/c the amount of olive oil I used was essentially nothing … it was supposed to be poached eggs but after watching a youtube video on how the heck you poach an egg, I decided that adventure was for another day), almonds, and strawberries
How I’m Feeling:  satisfied, gonna wait a couple hours (mostly out of procrastination and wanting to continue vacation in my mind…) and then do some kinda workout.  FYI I miss the gym.  Can’t wait to get back at it bright and early tomorrow!!

30 days - it’s on.

What a busy week.  Let’s see … I married my very best friend, went on a fabulous honeymoon, read the little nugget of information in my last post, and now I’m home with a fully stocked fridge to tackle my 30 days of Paleo.  I’m hoping these 30 days are just the jumping off point for a fabulous lifestyle of eating this way.  We shall see.  This book was filled with mind-blowing tidbits.  It really made me question almost everything I had been taught nutritionally … and it all makes sense!  I’m really looking forward to seeing how my body changes.  It all starts tomorrow … and for now I’m relaxing with the husband and our little fur monster that we so missed.  And here’s a little something just so I can relish the amazingly perfect day that came and went so quickly…

I just reserved this little gem from Borders.  My plan is to pick it up after my Mom, sister-in-law and MOH get our mani/pedi’s tonight.  I have a few books I’d like to read on our honeymoon and this my dears, is one of them.  I’ve been seeing this Paleo way of eating on pretty much every other blog I read lately, and I’m super interested.  I wanna know what the deal is with what seems like such drastic food group eliminations and have a better understanding as to why these certain foods are basically poison to my body.  I was casually talking about this way of eating this morning at the gym with my Tara, my sister-in-law.  She said this was basically eating gluten-free, and a friend of her’s did that.  Once she ate gluten products again she became severely ill … so I just want to get 100% informed before I dive right in :)  My fear is how to sufficiently fuel myself for marathon training with this possible lifestyle change.  Anyone have any suggestions or tips??

2 DAYS TIL I’M A MRS!!  FLIPPIN’ CRAZY.

I wish the next three days were longer than 24 hrs a day.  I have SO much to do and I’m running out of time!!

Great 5 mile run this morning with my sister-in-law and MOH.  Felt good to be out of the gym and getting a workout in.  Running outside is SO much more enjoyable than the treadmill…

Off for a full day of wedding to do’s!

One Week.

Exactly one week from now I’ll be getting ready to head out for our rehearsal and dinner.  When does it actually set in and become very real that you’re getting married?  When you’re putting your dress on?  When you’re getting ready to walk down the aisle?  After you’ve said your vows? I think I’ve just been so busy and have my mind on so many little to-do’s we have left that it just doesn’t seem real yet – I haven’t quite processed it all!

This week was epic of sorts in that I was up at 5am EVERY.SINGLE.DAY to hit the gym for a workout.  I usually only make it 4 days during the work week because I like to plan my rest day for a Wednesday or Thursday to break up the week a bit.  But not this week, friends – no rest for the bride to be.  Needless to say, I’m thoroughly looking forward to sleeping past 5am tomorrow.  Heck, sleeping til 6:30 would be considered “sleeping in.”

I did another 3 mile run this morning – a little worried in that my shin/calf pain was ever so slightly present for the first mile.  I’m horrible at stretching.  Meaning I don’t.  Ever.  So maybe I need to incorporate stretching into the mix?  What other things can I do for calf/shin pain?  It’s a very strange area of my leg that hurts – like right where my calf meets my shin on my left leg.  Need to nip this in the bud before marathon training!
